We are delighted to introduce Alyssa Ciccarello as the newest member of the Actors’ Gym at Bigoli Studios. Alyssa is a highly skilled and experienced Designated Linklater Teacher, and her work is dedicated to freeing the natural speaking voice, allowing it to express the full range of human experience. We’re excited to have her bring her passion and expertise to our community, and we can’t wait to experience the transformative potential of her teaching firsthand.

About Alyssa Ciccarello

Alyssa’s journey in voice and performance began at the Experimental Theatre Wing at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she first developed her fascination with the power of voice and its connection to emotional and intellectual expression. Since 2005, she has focused her career on helping actors and professionals unlock their natural vocal potential. Over the years, Alissa has taught at prestigious institutions like New York University, the Actor’s Studio MFA program, Fordham University, and Terry Knickerbocker’s Meisner studio in New York City.

From 2010 to 2015, she was the Head of Voice and Speech at the Maggie Flanigan Studio in Chelsea, where she was instrumental in developing voice programs for actors. Her reach extends beyond the U.S.; Alissa has worked internationally, teaching in intercultural environments across Europe and beyond. Since moving to Barcelona, she has collaborated with renowned institutions such as CERN in Geneva, and top MBA programs like IESE and ESADE, helping a diverse range of professionals tap into the power of vocal expression. Alyssa has also worked locally as a dialect and accent coach for film and television, and in voiceover.

In the Linklater community, Alyssa recently contributed to Mary Irwin’s MFA program in the UK, where she led workshops for training new Linklater teachers. This international perspective, combined with her deep understanding of voice, makes her a unique and invaluable resource for actors looking to liberate their vocal expression.

About the Workshops: Freeing the Natural Speaking Voice

This workshop is designed for actors looking to reconnect with their natural vocal instincts and free their voices from habitual tensions that limit expressivity.

Based on Kristin Linklater’s progressive vocal exercises, the workshop will guide participants through a sequence of physical and vocal explorations, helping to rehabilitate the natural capacity of the voice. The aim is to establish a direct connection between voice and emotional impulse, allowing actors to speak with clarity and authenticity. This process involves releasing tension from the body, particularly in areas like the throat, jaw, tongue, and soft palate, and expanding the range of vocal resonance in the chest, mouth, and face. Participants can expect a comprehensive introduction to vocal techniques that emphasize breath work, sound awareness, and articulation. By the end of the session, attendees will have a clearer understanding of how to apply these techniques to their acting, especially in camera and microphone work. The day will include playful exploration with poetry and text, so feel free to bring a text you know by heart to experiment with – or text will be provided.

This workshop is an exciting opportunity for actors to experience a ‘tasting menu’ of vocal exercises, with the promise of a surprise ‘dessert’ at the end!

Why This Workshop Matters

The ability to fully express oneself vocally is a vital tool for actors, yet many find their voices restricted by physical or emotional tension. Alyssa’s workshop offers a chance to free those restrictions and rediscover the natural fluidity of the voice. Whether you’re a seasoned actor or just beginning your journey, this workshop will help you access a deeper, more instinctual connection between your voice and your emotions.

Alyssa’s work not only empowers actors to embody the full range of their characters, but it also fosters greater confidence and presence in everyday life. Her approach is rooted in a philosophy of liberation—of shedding the layers of tension and self-consciousness that can inhibit authentic communication.

Looking Forward

Alyssa’s upcoming workshop is just the beginning. Later in the year, she will return to lead a longer-form series that delves even deeper into the techniques and philosophy behind freeing the voice. This extended offering will provide a more in-depth exploration of voice work, offering participants even more tools to unlock their full vocal potential.

Join us in giving Alyssa a warm welcome to the Actors’ Gym! We’re thrilled to have her as part of our community and can’t wait for you to experience the transformative power of her teaching.
